Weekend Update 11/2 — 11/5
Happy November, Denton!
Time flies by, Denton, and this October was no exception. Halloween has come and gone, much to our chagrin. No worries, however: the excitement of the upcoming holiday season is in the air, and our spooky spirits have turned festive. We’ve got the perfect cure for the Halloween hangover blues this weekend, starting with breakfast pizza and electronic beats at Breakfast for Dinner this Thursday night, followed by a comedy show at Audacity Brew House on Friday that’ll be sure to turn that post-October frown upside down. For those looking to rock, we salute you: there’s going to be a stacked house show at the Bean Cave this weekend as well as the Sunbuzzed Album Release Show at Andy’s. November is here, and fall is in full swing.
Here’s your weekend update.

The Breakfast Beats squad of Backyard on Bell are hosting “Breakfast for Dinner,” a nighttime shindig featuring the electronic, eclectic dance music played during BYOB Sunday brunches. Live music will be played all night from seven different artists including Kind Beats, Sanford Black, Lofty Beats, Galaxe, and more! Backyard on Bell will be serving their breakfast pizza all night as well as $2 mimosas. Food trucks like Parallel 90 and Leila’s Food Truck will be offering breakfast menu items, and Egan Street Design + Otter Illustrations will be presenting a special artistic project at the event.
Sundown Collaborative Theatre Presents: BUG
Black Box Theatre
11/3 to 11/5, 11/10, and 11/11
$12 GA, $10 students/seniors
Join the Sundown Collective Theatre team as they present the opening night of BUG at the Black Box Theatre this Friday. The piece, written by Tracy Letts and directed by Nolan Chapa, takes place in a sketchy Oklahoma motel where an unlikely couple meets. A bug infestation, an abusive ex-husband, and a palpable struggle with PTSD overwhelm the two as they are overcome with paranoia, psychological torment, and terror. Students and seniors get a discount at this performance, so be sure to bring your ID.
Several Standing Comedians Perform
Audacity Brew House
8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Grab a round of beers and give a round of applause! Join Denton’s favorite comedians as they take on Audacity Brew House for another round of “Several Standing Comedians Perform,” a traveling show hosted by Denton funny guy Colton Jones. Comedians Monna, Zachary Arredando, Nick Fields, and Brad Mackenzie set the stage for DFW talent Latrice Allen.
Overslept with Biographies and more at Killer's Tacos
7 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Tacos and tunes! Come out to Killer’s for tacos and music on Friday. Denver band Overslept and local group Biographies will be joining Golden Week, Hitting Subset, and Bullfighter for a night full of eclectic music and delicious food. Support local music while also supporting local food!
DOMA, Sun Babies, Luna Luna, Foxlove
9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
House show alert! The Bean Cave is hosting a stacked show this Saturday featuring Dallas band Luna Luna and Denton groups Foxlove, DOMA, and Sun Babies. The show starts at 9:00 with DOMA, and ends with Foxlove at 11:15. Never been to Bean Cave? No fear. Ask your fellow house show savant or check out their Facebook event page for details. As with all local house shows, respect the house, respect the tenants, be friendly, and have fun.
Loud & Local: Call To Fall
Backyard on Bell
5 p.m. to 12 a.m.
$8 presale, $10 at the door
Loud & Local presents their first seasonal event, Call to Fall, this Saturday at Backyard on Bell. The mini-fest, created in partnership with Weird Destiny productions, will have two stages set up for music all night long as well as a poppin’ afterparty with Party McFly. Denton alt rap artists Elijah Heaps and Nikolai Rya will co-headline with Dallas group To Live Again. Local artists Sad Cops, Donn Cham, Beneath the Waves, Miranda Kennedy, and many more will be lighting up Backyard on Bell all night.
GOD SAVE the Zine!: A Show Benefitting Razorcake
8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Keep zines alive! Dan’s is hosting a special benefit show for the music-centric zine Razorcake, a Los Angeles based fanzine that promotes alt music of varying genres. Over the years, Razorcake has brought some much-deserved attention to Denton’s punk scene by promoting bands like Radioactivity and Mind Spiders. Orconaut, Mountain of Smoke, The Noids, and Relient K2 make up the lineup for this benefit show, which will be giving the proceeds raised from the event to the Razorcake publication.
Sunbuzzed Album Release Show
8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Let’s get weird, Denton. The psych rock gods of Sunbuzzed release their much-anticipated debut album this weekend, and they’re celebrating with a rockin’ show at Andy’s! Doom rock band Strays, electric group FELT & FUR, and local slime kings Heavy Baby Sea Slugs will play alongside Sunbuzzed at this show. Cover to see all these bands shred live is only $5. Check out our review of their second single, "Sylvia."
Dallas Cowboys vs KC Chiefs at East Side
East Side Social Club
3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Sunday football! Come out to East Side on Sunday for beer, football, and free wings!
No, that was no typo — East Side is offering free wings during the first half of the game. All screens will be turned to the game, and sound will be on both indoors and outdoors. The weather is supposed to be bright, sunny, and pleasant, so skip the couch and Bud Lights and head out to East Side for the game instead!
