Off The Loop - RG Burger

Tucked away in a strip mall off of Loop 288, hidden behind the building that formerly held The Black Eyed Pea, is hamburger heaven. RG Burger has been serving up hand-crafted burgers since 2007, famous for their slightly toasted sweet sourdough bun. Hamburger patties are made fresh daily from 100% USDA ground beef, and you can pretty much get it whatever way you can think of. While using the highest quality of ingredients, they take you around the world in burger form. The Paris Burger brings together crumbled bleu cheese, grilled onions, and dill mayo, and My Big Fat Greek Burger is topped with sliced Kalamata olives, Greek feta cheese, and hummus. All burgers are also served with unlimited steak fries.

There are also fish and chicken options for those who avoid red meat. The Spicy Chipotle Chicken Sandwich is just the thing if you are craving a meal with a kick, combining a grilled chicken breast, pepper jack cheese, bacon, a house-made spicy chipotle mayo, and served on a whole wheat bun. Or, you can have a tilapia filet seasoned with lemon pepper, served with a side of your choice.

If the wide variety of options on their regular menu wasn’t enough to satisfy your curious appetite, then check out their Burger of the Month. I stopped in to check out what was on special for December and was blown away by their Surf ‘N Turf Burger: swiss cheese, a beef patty, fried catfish strips, and tartar sauce piled high on a fluffy sourdough bun. Burgers are cooked medium well unless requested otherwise, and are served open-faced with an option to add on the lettuce, tomato, and onions yourself. Make sure you come hungry, because this burger was as big as my face.

The tang of the house-made tartar sauce was the perfect compliment to the fried fish, and the cornmeal batter on the cat was golden and crispy. The combination of flavors, in addition to the perfectly cooked beef patty and melted swiss cheese, was freakin’ delicious, and I was blown away by the freshness of all the ingredients. Even the vegetables were crisp and fresh. We still have to talk about that bun, slightly toasted with a hint of sweet; the sourdough added another flavor element to the plate and brought out the hearty flavor of the hamburger patty.

RG Burger is located at 2430 S Interstate 35 E #172, Denton, TX 76205, and is open from 11 AM to 9 PM Sunday through Thursday, and 11 AM to 10 PM on Friday and Saturday.
