Think Outside The Square - 5 Restaurants to Check Out

School has started back up, and there is a wave of new folks in town who have a whole lot of learning, not just in their continued education, but where to grab a bite to eat around town. We listed out 5 fantastic options that will take you away from Square and Fry St to discover something new for your taste buds. This is only a handful of options, there are still some amazing Denton gems to discover.

 

Yummy`s Greek

210 W University Dr, Denton, TX 76201

Greek served in a small hole in the wall dine-in location is the perfect place for a date night escape. The best part is that the escape is available in Denton by dining in at Yummy’s.

Yummy’s provides a cozy atmosphere with classic table cloths and pull out chairs. This is a great place to rest your mind and settle your taste with little noise to distract.

Yummy’s classic Greek dishes include grilled items such as gyros, falafels, chicken souvlaki, kafta, and shish-kabobs making for tastes that are hard to settle outside this restaurant.

Chilled Greek salad and fresh pita are available to compliment the meal. Yummy’s has delightful chickpea hummus and spinach artichoke dip available for all your dipping needs.

Vegetarian options are available. The restaurant is a bit pricy but for those more on a budget they lower priced options available such as sandwiches along with several walk in daily specials. - Robert Warren

 

Thai Ocha

Serving traditional Thai cuisines such as green, yellow, and red curries Thai Ocha is a good place to get a little spice.

Thai Ocha has many warm soups available along with crisp cold salads. Among the soups is noodle soups, tofu veggie soups, wonton soups, Tom Kha and Tom Yum.

If you are searching for a summer fresh salads this is a good place to find them. Thai Ocha Salad is one of the salad dishes available with romaine lettuce, tomato, cold cucumber, mango, pineapple water, chestnut, carrot, avocado and peanut oil.

Then there are some salads with more of a kick to it such as the beef salad with tomato, cucumber, onions, spicy lime juice and beef.  

Thai Ocha has signature dishes available such as their signature shrimp in garlic sauce which has fried shrimp tossed in garlic sauce served with broccoli, cabbage and baby corn.

Bagheri`s

Originally located on Fry Street Bagheri's offers a classic but authentic taste to Italian Cuisine with often large portions of dishes.

Serving pastas, salads, specialty dishes, seafood along with chicken and veal this restaurant provides an array to choose from.

Specialty items include tortellinis, spinach raviolis,  eggplant and chicken parmesans as well as several alfredo options.

Bagheri’s leans more on the pricy side but with food often served in large helpings you get your bang for your buck.

Some seafood options available are mussels, baby clams and shrimp fettuccini alfredo. They also have shrimp pomodoro which is jumbo shrimp sautéed with tomatoes and garlic.

If you are craving lasagna they have plenty of options of beef, cheese, mushroom, and sausage lasagnas.

While the restaurant may look small at first you will soon realize that Bagheri’s has a large taste of options available. Classic Italian with an authentic taste. - Robert Warren

 

La Mazatlan

Serving up authentic Mexican cuisine by the plate fulls, you can rely on great consistent service to bring your enchiladas to the tables. A great bang for your buck night out, with affordable pricing on food and drink.

You can start off your meal with some guacamole made tableside, and the house salsa leaves nothing wanted with the right balance of flavor and spice.

Large plate options include flautas, sizzling fajitas for one or two with a variety of protein options, chile rellenos, burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas (with vegetarian options), as well as their authentic Mexican plates like the Carne Guisada, Pechuga de Pollo, Carne Asada, and Chicken Mole.

Burger Time Machine

The Burger Time Machine takes us back to checkered table top covers, fried goodness, and burgers the size of your face. While the aged outside maybe deceiving, the dining experience is always top notch for patrons.

There are plenty of creative burger options to sink your teeth into! The Star Wars Burger has cheese cooked inside the beef patty, with shredded cheese on top, mustard, mayo, lettuce, and onion.

If you’re feeling like a real challenge, you can take on the Terminator, double patty, Burger with grilled onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, two American cheese slices, mayo, mustard, lettuce, and pickles.

Looking for something a little more outside the box? Try the Country Peanut Butter Burger, peanut butter, bacon, American cheese, mayo, mustard, bbq sauce, lettuce, onion, and pickles.
