Weekend Update July 19 - July 22

If you haven’t completely melted into your couch or car seat yet, peel yourself off those cushions and enjoy some of the many activities Denton has to offer this week. BONUS: Most of them are inside a sweet cold icy air-conditioned building.

 

Thursday, July 19th

DCM - Kids Art Party! - 50th Anniversary Member Org. Spotlight

Greater Denton Arts Council

The GDAC is continuing to celebrate their 50th Anniversary with a slew of events, and this Thursday in partnership with the Denton Community Market, market members, local makers, and crafters will be in attendance for a Kid’s Art Party! There will be an arts and craft station plus environmental and farm education activities. Check out the event for more details; the party goes from 6-8pm.

Dan’s Silverleaf

FYI Dan’s Silverleaf programming has been killin’ it. Every week they have shows you don’t want to miss with some of the raddest techs in town behind the soundboards. Witch Mountain is a legend in the making, complimented with the title of the “top-purveyors of American doom.” Pinkish Black is an experimental duo grown from a doom/jazz trio, with Mountain of Smoke rounding out the line up with their sounds of sludge and noise. $12 in advance and $15 at the door.  

 

DCI North Texas Presented by Stanbury Uniforms

C.H. Collins Athletic Complex

Punching my nerd card to share my excitement for Drum Corps International to be making their way through North Texas, bringing together the most elite in Drum Corps to battle out all their hard work and preparation across asphalt or turf to create a visual and musical experience that is a combination of skill, endurance, and dedication. This event is from 7pm-11pm, and tickets are available in the FB event.

 

Friday, July 20th

Remain // Kris Wallace // Radio Wore // David Arvisu

J&J’s Pizza on the Square

It’s a night of Rock’n’Roll and pizza, paired perfectly with an ice-cold Schlitz in the not-so-old dirty basement of J&J’s on the Square. Music starts at 7:30pm, so she can seek shelter from the evening temps, with Denton Rock band, Remain, closing out the night with a set at 10:30pm.

 

Isaac Hoskins and Mike Stinson

Harvest House

The stage at Harvest House will be graced by the talents of Isaac Hoskins and Mike Stinson, experienced songwriters, ready to bring you an evening mixed with Honky Tonk and Rock. This is a free show, tunes beginning at 9pm and going until 12am, with a bar full of tasty cocktails to keep you cool.
 

The Throwback Party

Andy’s Bar

Ladies, get those butterfly hair clips out of the bottom of your bathroom drawer and the acid washed jeans out of the back of your closet. Fellas, pair up that flannel with some dad elastic waisted pants and frost those tips if that's your thing. Andy’s is throwing it back to the decade where some of y’all were made, with a DJ spinning the late 80’s all the way to the early 2000’s. Tickets are just $5, and this event is 21+.

 

Saturday, July 21st

Dodgeball Tournament with Noble Rey

The Bearded Monk

Another weekend means another zany unexpected event at the Monk. This weekend keeps the standard high with a Dodgeball Tournament with Noble Rey. Make sure to check-in to the event or swing by for a 6-pack and inquire about one-on-one and team match ups so you can compete for some sweet prizes.
 

Riveting Women 3

J&J’s Pizza on the Square

The 3rd Annual Riveting Women showcase features a line up of 5 fantastic female comedians ready to throw you into fits of laughter that have you spitting out your Schlitz. LOL for a Cause is the organizer behind the event and, to date, has raised $20,000 funds and resources for Denton schools and children's programs.  Your $5 cover goes to support their cause. Doors at 7:30pm and the laughs start at 8pm.
 

KUZU : Revolution I

Andy’s Bar

KUZU is turning 1yr old and is throwing a party to remember at Andy’s Bar this Sunday. A full lineup of music in the basement and on the venue level with Rotsnave Collective providing visuals and KUZU DJ’s performing in between sets to keep the party always going. The event is 18+ and you can grab tickets through the Eventbrite link on the event FB page. Join KUZU and their fam for a night you won’t forget and continue to support Denton’s own community-run radio station.

Backyard on Bell

It’s a free show all ages this Saturday night at Backyard on Bell! Enjoy the sounds of three amazing bands from their new stage while you keep cool with an iced beverage. Always pairs perfectly with pizza or food from one of the food trucks in the yard!

Morning Buzz with Karma Yoga

Denton County Brewing Co

Get stretchy with Karma Yoga every Sunday morning at 11am inside Denton County Brewing Company! Class is all levels, only $5, and they even have extra mats you can borrow for free. Get a jump start to your Sunday morning and then a little Funday with a post-yoga kombucha, cold brew, or tasty beer!
