Weekend Update: 11/17 - 11/20

As always, Dentonites, we have curated a little list of events to help you along your many adventures. It’s time to put the week behind you and become a weekend warrior, so thrill up Thursday by helping those in need, favor Friday with lots of live music, and savor Saturday and Sunday by shaking your tailfeather and drinking the latest addition at Audacity Brew House. Ready. Set. Go!

Thursday, November 17th

Cause an Effect Fundraiser
Chipotle – 1224 W. Hickory, 5 p.m.
Join Giving Hope, Inc. of Denton County at Chipotle on Hickory (near the UNT campus) in an effort to raise funds to help homeless families. How does it work? Simply print and bring in the flyer that’s posted on the event page or let the cashier know you’re supporting this cause to ensure that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Giving Hope, Inc. They’re asking you turn dinner into a helpful act and buy a burrito to cause an effect! This fundraiser runs 5 PM–9 PM. 

Beaujolais & More - 2016
Denton Civic Center, 5:30 p.m.
Spend an evening drinking wine and support the Campus Theatre! Sign us up! Every year Beaujolais Nouveaux wine from France is flown all-over and tonight you can taste it, as well as other wines, craft beers, and snacks from over 20 Denton restaurants. $30 at the door gets you access to all of this deliciousness.

NTX Beer Week: Craft Independence Industry Night
The Bearded Monk, 8 p.m.
Along with the announcement of Karbach Brewing from (Houston, TX) has sold to Budweiser’s parent company, The Bearded Monk decided to cancel their event Cards Against Humanity with Karbach. In spite of the unfortunate turn of events, but will be celebrating Craft Industry Night with breweries free of yoke of AB InBev and MillerCoors. Whether you’re a brewery owner, a brewer, rep, or bartender—all are welcome. Bring a bottle or two to help celebrate! 

Friday, November 18th

Nascent
Voertman’s Gallery, 6 p.m.
Local artists are coming together to present an art show to benefit Bricks to Boardrooms, a non-profit organization that aims to help women get back on their feet through methods such as donations of clothing and career enhancement classes. The reception will happen on the 18th, and refreshments will be available! Enjoy beautiful prints, bring clothing for donation, and learn more about this organization. 

Leoncarlo & WoodWired Duo
Taps & Caps, 8 p.m.
Join Taps & Caps for a night of symphonic sounds with Leoncarlo and WoodWired Duo. Skilled violinist Leoncarlo showcases his experimental/cinematic/post-ambient compositions, while electroacoustic duo WoodWired creates upbeat arrangements of contemporary and classical music. Have a few brews and enjoy the talents of these Dentonites. This event is 18+, with a $3 cover charge for those 18–20 years of age and a $1 cover for 21+. 

Tomkat / Abacaba / Biscuit Head / Moniker
Jagoe House, 9 p.m.
Jagoe House is celebrating a few of their staff members’ birthdays with a killer show. Helping celebrate these days of birth will be local bands Biscuit Head, Abacaba, and TOMKAT! Monikermusic is set to headline, showcasing their wide spectrum of sounds. Party starts around 9 p.m.

Saturday, November 19th

Get Crafty! Mixed Media Workshop
Backyard on Bell, 3 p.m.
Karma Yoga Denton invites you to get crafty with this Mixed Media Workshop. Nicola Connor of Nicola Jane’s Beaded Jewelry will guide you through the therapeutic process of mixed media—artwork in which one more than one medium has been employed—with a hands-on tutorial. All supplies will be included for only $5 per person. The location is still TBD, so keep an eye on the event page.

Shake Your Tail Feather – Benefit Show
BackYard on Bell, 7 p.m.
Head over to BackYard on Bell for a night of celebrating the Denton community. In an effort to help raise funds and collect donations this event will feature live music from a few awesome local musicians—Noogy, Sergio Y Compadres, and more. Cover is just $3, or you can opt to bring three items from the list posted on the event page—or better yet, both. Shake your tailfeathers, Dentonites!

The Gypsy Bravado / Flintlock Gypsy / NoiseBleedsSound / Thrill Bill
Dane Manor, 7:30 p.m.
Saturdays are generally the last day to completely cut loose before that pesky Monday rolls around. Do so at Dane Manor with a full night of rock. The Gypsy Bravado brings traditional rock ‘n’ roll to these intimate quarters, while Flintlock Gypsy adds a Texas twist. NoiseBleedSound and Thrill Bill will deliver their alternative-rock stylings to the stage. B.Y.O.B. for those 21 and up, so bring your IDs. Music starts at 8 p.m. 

Sunday, November 20th

Vegan Thanksgiving Feast 
Audacity Brew House, 11 a.m.
The Denton Vegetarian Society is back at it with their annual Vegan Thanksgiving Feast. They’ll be partnering up with Karma Yoga Denton to start the event off with some yoga before feasting on Thanksgiving classics - potluck style. Yoga will be held at D-Bat across the street for $5!

NTX Beer Week: Launch of Audacity’s new Boom Bock
The Bearded Monk, 4 p.m.
After a night of “laughing, tasting, jamming, and judging,” Audacity Brew House and Brewmaster, Doug Smith and Denton’s own Space Gospel group, The BoomBachs, created Audacity’s newest brew in its Lil’ d series: The Boom Bock. Word on the street is its notes of “caramel, sweet bread, and malty-honey-goodness” are perfect on a fall night. Yes, please. As The BoomBachs showcase their conquest at a few of their favorite local spots, they’ll be recording an album along the way. This stop: The Bearded Monk. This unique beer release and concert is only happening in Denton, so don’t miss out! Beer release takes place around 4 p.m. with music to follow. 

UNT HarpBeats
UNT College of Music, 5 p.m.
Join the UNT College of Music for a night with the UNT HarpBeats—a harp ensemble where students compose, arrange, and lead most of the music. This melodious event is directed by Jaymee Haefner, who has joined notable musicians such as Johnny Mathis and Ben Folds on stage. You can catch the UNT HarpBeat’s serene performance at Voertman’s Hall or stream it live via the event page. Either way, and best of all, it's free!
