Thursday, August 25th
East Side 3 Year Anniversary Party
East Side, 3 PM
Start your weekend proper (Fridays don’t count, right?) by celebrating East Side’s third anniversary. With over 20 special tappings, food trucks abound, and live music by Raised Right Men, carousing with the community will be a cinch. A limited number of t-shirts, glasses, and koozies will be available, and Pan Ector will be out screening prints. So, stop what you’re doing and get to East Side now!
Tom’s Daiquiri 1 Year Birthday Bash
Tom’s Daiquiri, 7 PM
When you’re done celebrating East Side’s third anniversary, head over to Tom’s Daiquiri for their one-year birthday bash! Grab a bite to eat from El Rudo Taco as you enjoy live music by Grady Spencer and Hailey Erin. In celebration, they’ll be giving away koozies, custom prints, and high fives—you can’t go wrong with that.
Friday, August 26th
48 Hour Film Race – UNT Short Film Club
Audacity Brew House, 3 PM
Showcase your filmmaking skills by joining The Short Film Club 48 Hour Film Race (SFC48) for a little creative competition. This annual contest celebrates veteran and amateur filmmakers alike with hopes to create an avenue for more filmmaking activity in the Denton area. Filmmaking teams will be selected August 26 at Audacity Brew House. Each team will have 48 hours to make a short film from start to finish. Creative Mixer & Dance Party with The Dentonite and Cash & Respect
Motto Bar and Sushi, 7 PM
Calling all Denton creatives! If you’re a musician, artist, photographer, videographer, and/or writer, join us for a creative mixer and dance party. (I hope Motto Bar and Sushi is ready for this!) Cash & Respect will help us host this event, bringing you an evening of creative energy and connection opportunities. Don’t miss this chance to mix and mingle with some innovative folks!
Doug Burr and Claire Morales, Ft. Jana Horn
Dan’s Silver Leaf, 9 PM
Denton troubadour Doug Burr brings his Americana melodies intertwined with impassioned lyrics to Dan’s Silver Leaf. Burr, who has several noteworthy “Best Of” lists under his belt, will be sharing the stage with Denton’s own melodious sweetheart Claire Morales. Jana Horn from ATX opens. Tickets are $10. Welcome Home: The Basement & Biographies
Andy’s Bar, 9 PM
Friday nights call for…? We’d say good music, cheap drinks, and perhaps a little unexpected fun. Revel in all three at Andy’s Bar with The Basement—reuniting for their first show in five years. With Biographies, local experimental/indie-rock band, opening, this night promises to be memorable.
Saturday, August 27th
Creative Women’s Conference
Denton Public Library North Branch, 10 AM
Join the Creative Women’s Conference at the Denton Public Library North Branch for a day of celebrating and promoting the creative endeavors of women. They’ll have an exhibitor room to showcase (and sell!) the works of female creators, and a speaker’s room where various discussions with women in the artistic field will be held. Connect with the artists and celebrate our creative community with this FREE event.
Free Pokemon (The First Movie) Screening on the Square
Courthouse Lawn, 8:30 PM
Friends with Benefits Denton—a local nonprofit that benefits north Texas charitable organizations—will be screening the first Pokémon movie on the Courthouse lawn in an effort to Keep Denton Warm. With the fall season quickly approaching (only 25 days away!), they’re asking the movie-goers to bring winter wear for donation to Our Daily Bread, in hopes to fill an entire Little Guys Movers truck. So, gather all you can spare—coats, hats, socks, gloves, etc.—and make this your Pokéstop of the night.
Sunday, August 28th
Wine Squared, 11 AM
Brunch is always a good idea on a Sunday, amiright? Join Wine Squared for this month’s Summer Brunch, where you will be treated to a variety of classic brunch favorites, along with bottomless crepes by crepe master, Laurent Prouvoust of Crepetopia. It’s $22 for brunch and a mimosa, or $32 for brunch and BOTTOMLESS mimosas—both include gratuity. Space is limited, so if you haven’t already made plans for this event, do so now! The brunch buffet is first-come, first-served, so arrive fashionably on time.
Support Downtown Local Businesses to Help Raise Money for Baton Rouge Flood
Denton Downtown Square, 12 PM
Local-business owner John Williams invites you to shop, eat, and drink your way around the Square to raise money for Baton Rouge flood victims. Over 25 local businesses will be participating, each donating 5–10% of sales to the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and the Companion Animal Shelter—Baton Rouge’s city animal shelter. Spread the word and help these businesses raise over $3,000 by doing the stuff you’re planning on doing anyway—it’s for a good cause!
Denton Pours for Pups
Taps & Caps, OSDH, East Side, Midway Craft House, Bearded Monk, Greenhouse Restaurant, 12 PM
Have a few brews for man’s best friend at some of your favorite Denton hangouts, as Denton Pours for Pups. Featuring the Denton Humane Society and Dallas Pets Alive, DFW’s best craft breweries have graciously donated kegs to a few participating bars, in hopes of raising awareness of our homeless furry friends while you guzzle. All proceeds will benefit the Denton Animal Support Foundation. (We’ll drink to that!) Check out the event page for more details.
FWB – Keep Denton Warm – Sock Hop
Harvest House, 5 PM
Join Friends with Benefits at Harvest House for the Keep Denton Warm Sock Hop. Featuring music by Swandiver, Kim Nall & The Fringe, and more, this musical event will take you through the decades with the sweet sounds of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Nice Up Crew kicks it off at 5 PM. FREE, but winter wear donations are being accepted on behalf of Our Daily Bread in an effort to keep the Denton-area homeless warm this winter—just look for the Little Guys Movers truck.
