Weekend Update: 3/9 - 3/12

Dentonites, it’s the weekend before Spring Break! If you’re a student or a teacher, start your week-long break with a beer release, a poetic party, a dance festival, or perhaps a live show. And to all the parents, relish in a wily weekend before your kids are at home for (probably too long of) a week. We’ve rounded up a few events to get your party juices flowing. Check it!

Thursday, March 9

Customer Appreciation Day
Harvest House, 4 PM

The folks at Harvest House and Coup de Taco would like to show their appreciation for their amazing customers, so they’re holding a Customer Appreciation Day—you’re all invited! To express their gratitude, there will be $3 drafts available from 4–7 PM, free chips and salsa to the first 100 Coup de Taco customers (6 PM), and a free pint glass to the first 100 bar customers (7 PM). Plus, there will be special beer tappings and an exclusive menu provided by Coup de Taco. Celebration begins around 4 PM.

Thin Line Veritas Saison Beer Release Party
Audacity Brew House, 6 PM

Join Thin Line Fest as they celebrate their tenth anniversary with Audacity Brew House’s Lil’ D #5 release—a Veritas Saison in honor of the long-running nonprofit. Along with the release, there will be a raffle and Open Mic sessions. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m super stoked about this Saison. Bring friends and family to celebrate this fine local organization at this fine local establishment.

Jesus Chris + The Beetles Record Release
The Rabbit Hole, 9 PM

Travel down to The Rabbit Hole and delve into a night of noise/rock/sloppy, sludge punk. This local showcase will feature the talents of Jesus Chris + The Beetles (who’ll be releasing their latest album, Trickle Down, at this show), along with Heavy Baby Sea Slugs, Thin Skin, and Sexual Jeremy. This all-ages show is FREE. Music kicks off around 9 PM.

Friday, March 10

Lost Poet Lounge
Wine Squared, 7 PM

Lover of words? Aficionado of wine? Join the Lost Poet Lounge at Wine Squared for their event: Poetic Soirée. This poetic party will deliver a night of delightful discourse featuring works by local poets, sonneteers, and lyricists. Festivities start at 7 PM.

Collage 2017: Denton Dance Festival
Campus Theatre, 7:30 PM

Join the Denton Dance Conservatory for their two-day event Collage 2017: Denton Dance Festival. Now in its 24th year, this dance production unites pre-professional and professional dancers through the delicate and delightful as well as the daring and damning facets of life. Accommodating to the tastes of those young and old, this show works to challenge the mind and heart through entertainment and education. Tickets are $17 and are available via www.DentonContemporaryBallet.org. Showtime for both Friday and Saturday is 7:30 PM.

Bleeps & Bloops
Taps & Caps, 8 PM

Get your bleeps, bloops, and brews all in one place! Join Taps & Caps as they host a slew (nine, to be exact) of UNT College of Music Composers who’ll be showcasing their electronic music talents. There is a $3 cover for those 18–20 years of age and $1 for those 21+.

Saturday, March 11

Orenda, Dad. The Band, Mah Kee Oh, New Vision
Midway Craft House, 9 PM

Two things you can count on being constants in Denton is the abundance of shows and the ever-flowing alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) beverages. Get your taste of both on Saturday at Midway Craft House. Featuring performances by Dallas experimental rock band Orenda as well as Denton indie rock band Mah Kee Oh. Making their way down from Oklahoma to join the bill are emo/post-punk band Dad.The Band and alt-punk foursome New Vision. Grab a few craft brews and watch a free show, Denton. (Note: Sadly, the craft beer is not free.) Music starts at 9 PM.

YO! Denton with DJ Menace
Andy’s Bar, 7 PM

YO! Denton is set to bring you another epic night of 90’s hip hop—this go-round will be held at Andy’s Bar. This collective of hip-hop enthusiasts—Mike Vivid, DJ Aquanot, Lite One, and Swif-T—will be spinning your favorites. Plus, Special Guest DJ Menace from Boom 94.5 FM, DFW’s classic hip hop and throwback R&B station, will be out! Oh, and did we mention there will be a laser light show AND a 10 ft. projector to play Sega Genesis on? ‘Cause that’s happening. YO! Denton shirts will be available for sale. Come shake what your momma gave ya for only $5. 21+.

Forgotten Space
Dan’s Silverleaf, 9 PM

Calling all Deadheads! Forgotten Space, a Dallas-based band dedicated to celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead, returns to Dan’s Silverleaf for their only March performance. They’ll be celebrating this return with two full sets of psychedelic rock. Here’s a chance to wear that tie-dye shirt you’ve been holding on to. Tickets are $15 and are available via www.danssilverleaf.com. Get ready to rock around 9 PM.

Sunday, March 12

2nd Sunday Yoga Drum Jam
Audacity Brew House, 11 AM

Center yourself after a fun-filled weekend and join Karma Yoga and 7Feathers for their 2nd Sunday Yoga Drum Jam. Local drummers are invited to provide the beat and help create a flow for yogis to experience as they stretch away the stress. After the class, stick around to rehydrate with a brew or two. The class is $5 with all proceeds benefiting 7Feathers. All levels of practice are welcome!

Lily Taylor, Karima Walker, Frejyalune, BeachPriest
Nebulae, 7 PM

Before the weekend ends, step into the spatial chamber that is Nebulae. Arizona experimental musician Karima Walker creates paced arrangements through loops and traditional song structures, delivering a unique approach to her ambient songwriting. Joining the bill is Lily Taylor, whose unique and vocally-driven structured songs will play out in this solo performance. Frejyalune brings the spacey experimentation and BeachPriest brings the electronic sights and sounds. $5. See event page for address.

Laure Briard, Claire Morales
Taps & Caps, 8:30 PM

Savor the sounds of Laure Briard and Claire Morales by joining Join Lone Star Taps & Caps for an intimate night of music. Traveling stateside from Toulouse, France, Briard shows Texas what indie/French-pop is all about and Morales showcases her sweet, soulful melodies. To that we say: L’amour pour la musique est dans l’air. There is a $3 cover for those 18–20 and $1 for those 21+.
