Nightmare on Elm Street Preview
Nightmare on Elm Street won’t leave your Sunday with nightmares of Freddy Kreuger and his sinister glove, although it should provide a few frights. This is the 2nd Block party hosted Elm St strip mall, and with the help of 7Feathers, they've pulled out all the stops. The first part of the party will be more kid friendly, and the evening will be more geared to the adults - but will still have plenty to keep the kiddos busy. Michelle Keifer is one of the founding members of 7Feathers, and is working hard with other members of the organization to create a day full of events that will be spooky treat for the whole family.
“Keeping lots of different things happening ensures there is something for everyone," Keifer says. "But really what it comes down to is the vibes and the culture of who shows up. 7Feathers has an amazing group of people that are loving, accepting, and open to anyone that walks through the gate. Age, culture, musical preference mean nothing when the goal is to grow as a diverse community. It's pretty beautiful, because we are all Denton." Fat Shack and JuiceLab will be filling bellies, Jacks Tavern will make sure your thirst is quenched, and local vendors include Karma Yoga reading tarot cards, Nice Dudes Servicing Craft with live screen printing, and the always awesome Otter Illustrations..
7Feathers hosts or participates in several events each month, each having a unique philanthropic element. Admission to the Block Party is free, with gates opening at 3pm and you can score some free raffle tickets by bringing coats, jackets, hats, or socks to contribute the donation station for Giving Hope, Inc.
“We learned early on as an organization that partnering with other service groups was a way to unite all of our efforts rather than attempting to build and fund another program." Keifer explains. "All of us working together, and being okay with supporting someone else's cause is what makes a strong community. So for every event we pick a program to support and put our own twist on it. The other organizations don't have to spend resources or time or effort, we just do it in honor of them. We have a few key volunteers that are active in these service groups and they help guide us to what the needs are and where we can make the most difference."
The event will also have three different stages covering just about every music taste possible. You can groove to DJ’s in the Haunted House Stage with performances from Kind Beats, Sailor, and Tony Snow to name a few, catch some local favorites like I am Clark Kent, Southpaw Preachers, and Sergio Y Compadres at the Main Stage, and get funky at the JuiceLab Stage with a lineup that includes Too Soft and the Smooth Smells and Billy Ratcliff. Raffle tickets will be used to win prizes and play in the different carnival games, with children focused options in the first part of the day and adult inspired games later in the evening. You will probably wish you could be three places at once, maybe 4 if you are killing it at the carnival games, we heard the Adult ones will have prizes like those handy airplane liquor bottles.
Full musical lineup and even more details in the Nightmare on Elm Street Facebook event and the Block Party will be in the JuiceLab parking lot from 3-10pm.
