It’s that time where every month, we highlight 5 opportunities to get involved as a volunteer in Denton. These are either places that need volunteers right now, or in the case of specific events - are currently in the recruitment phase. Check them out below and sign up for your favorite or heck, maybe do all five!
Dr. Seuss Reading Day
Most of us (all of us?) probably grew up reading Dr. Seuss books. All the zany characters, eccentric illustrations, and rhyming words are a hit for kids (and adults!) all over. Dr. Seuss Reading Day is celebrated every year on Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Spend your morning on March 2nd reading your favorite Seuss book to a group of kids and lead related activities. The Great American Cleanup
This annual event hosted by Keep Denton Beautiful utilizes thousands of volunteers to clean up our beautiful city. Clean up starts at 9 am on the morning of March 25th and is followed by a volunteer appreciation party from 11 - 1 at the Denton Civic Center. Deadline to sign up is March 13th at 4 PM. Thin Line Film Festival
The Thin Line Film Festival is in its 10th year and is looking to be bigger and better than ever. The fest runs from April 19-23 and features five whole days of film, music, and photography. Run entirely by volunteers, help is needed with everything from ticket taking to event management. More info can be found here or you can register on the website. Deadline to signup is April 12th.
903 Galentine’s Day
On Friday, February 10th, ladies (and gentlemen) are cordially invited to attend the 903 Galentine’s Day event hosted by Oak St. Drafthouse. There will be pint night specials and an opportunity for individuals to write uplifting messages for women being served in domestic violence shelters. The event is being held by 903 Brewers to benefit Denton County Friends of the Family. Donations of toiletries, toilet paper, paper towels, and adult coloring books will also be accepted. OUTReach Denton Valentine’s Day Bash at Oak St. Drafthouse
Looking for another community cause to support on Valentine’s weekend? Join OUTReach Denton’s 5th annual LGBQTIA Valentine's Day Fundraiser on Saturday, February 11th. Festivities will include a photo booth from 4 to 8 P.M. by Brian Doore, raffle tickets, a free couples massage. Spend $5 and receive a Y'all Means All, Love and Equality Valentine's Day pint glass courtesy of OUTReach Denton. A portion of the proceeds will be donated from Oak St. Drafthouse to benefit OUTReach Denton. More information can be found on the event page.
