Arts and Autos Extravaganza Preview

What do art and automobiles have to do with each other? If you live in Denton, an awful lot actually.

September 10th marks the 17th annual Denton Main Street Arts & Autos Extravaganza. Over the past 16 years, this event has grown into a staple of Denton culture. As its name implies, the extravaganza is centered on various art- and specialty vehicle- related activities designed to cater to the diverse interests of the Denton population.

The “auto” portion of the extravaganza includes an open showcase of rare and unusual vehicles from across Denton County, from classic cars to hot rods to luxury motorcycles. There is also a competitive component: cash prizes will be given to the best vehicle in each major category (cars, trucks, and motorcycles). Festival-goers themselves will have the option to vote for their favorite vehicles in “whimsical classes”. Make no mistake- even those unfamiliar with specialty vehicles will be able to appreciate these unusual finds!

As for the “art” portion of the event, visitors will be treated to interactive art activities such as hands-on craft workshops, antiques vending, and displays of works from local artists, some of which will be on sale. The extravaganza also coincides with the annual Chalk Fest, an all-ages event in which Dentonites come together to quilt Denton Square with their personal chalk creations. In this way, the extravaganza gives residents the opportunity to both support and actively contribute to the local art scene.

Not an arts or vehicle aficionado? No problem. In addition to the above, the extravaganza features festival staples such as fair food and live music performances. The event also takes place throughout the beautiful Denton square, offering festival-goers various shopping, dining, and sightseeing opportunities.

In short, the Denton Main Street Arts & Autos Extravaganza is a one-of-a-kind festival that is sure to entertain connoisseurs and casual visitors alike. There is a reason that Denton has maintained this event as a sixteen-year tradition, and the seventeenth year looks to be no different.
